My Father Sold My Car On My Birthday, Forcing Me To Finally Choose Myself

On my twenty-fourth birthday, I discovered my father had sold the Toyota Corolla I bought with my own money and used the $8,000 to pay for my brother’s tuition.

I was working a hospital shift when his message arrived saying, “Family comes first,” as if that explained taking something that belonged to me without asking. I had spent years helping my family, sacrificing my own dreams, and staying silent whenever they needed money or support. But this time was different because they had not borrowed from me. They had taken from me.
