My Mother-in-Law Hid My Dress, Forcing Me to Walk the Aisle in Uniform

Only 40 minutes before my wedding, I opened the bridal suite closet and froze. My custom ivory wedding dress—the one I had dreamed about for years—was gone. In its place hung a plain gray maid’s uniform with a white apron and name tag. A note was pinned to it from my future mother-in-law, Victoria: “Know your place.”

My heart raced as I stared at it. Behind me stood my fiancé, Richard, and his mother wore a satisfied smile. “This is for your own good,” Victoria said. “Sign over control of your company, and maybe you’ll get your dress back.”

Richard handed me legal documents. “It’s just a formality,” he said.

I looked at the man I thought I loved and realized the truth. They believed they had trapped me.
