The Timestamp Glowing on the Television Screen Exposed the One Person Truly Behind It

Wesley turned toward Dad slowly, the frozen frame of his own truck still glowing on the television behind him. For a moment he said nothing, and the silence in that living room was the loudest thing I had ever heard. Then his voice cracked, and the words fell out of him before he could stop them. “You told me to do it. You said if I scared her enough, she’d just hand over the keys.”

Dad’s face went white. Tanya’s hand flew to her mouth. I stood perfectly still, because after eight years of putting chaos into order, I had learned that the most important moment is the one right after the truth arrives. And the truth had just arrived, in my brother’s own voice, in my father’s own living room.
