The person I hired was not another contractor.
It was a property attorney.
He arrived at Katherine’s house carrying photographs from my security cameras, the pool installation records, and an estimate from a licensed company explaining what it would cost to remove the concrete and rebuild what she had destroyed.
The preliminary total was over $38,000.
Katherine came running across the lawn moments later.
“You’re suing us?”
“I’m asking you to restore what you deliberately destroyed.”
Her husband followed behind her looking considerably less confident. His company’s truck, logo, and license number were clearly visible on my camera footage.
That mattered.
A lot.
My attorney explained that the incident involved unauthorized entry onto my property and intentional damage. He also advised them that I had already preserved the video and contacted my insurance company.
Suddenly Katherine wanted to call the whole thing a misunderstanding.
“You said the children were too loud,” I reminded her. “Then you filled their pool with concrete at five in the morning.”
Within days, her husband’s company agreed to pay for professional removal and restoration rather than let the dispute escalate further.
The pool had to be rebuilt almost completely.
But when it finally reopened, my children jumped back in wearing enormous smiles.
Katherine wanted silence.
Instead, she bought my family a brand-new pool—and learned that someone else’s backyard was never hers to control.
