The Reservation They Left Me Behind to Enjoy Was the One Thing I Still Controlled

My fingers moved fast across the keyboard. Every booking was under my name, my email, my credit card. The private flight, the villa, the ski passes, the ground transportation, the catered Christmas dinner. Four months of planning, all of it tied to a single account only I could access. They had left me asleep and stolen away in the dark, certain that as long as my card worked, I was disposable. They had forgotten that a card I control is a card I can freeze.

I started with the villa. One click, and the reservation was canceled, the refund routed back to me. Then the ski passes. Then the catered dinner. My hands did not shake. Then I opened the airline portal, the private charter that was, at that very moment, carrying my family toward Colorado with the smug certainty that everything would be waiting for them. And I saw the one detail they had completely overlooked.
