The Debt Put Damon Under Sabrina’s Control

The next morning, Damon was already complaining over breakfast.

“You still haven’t sent the $172,000.”

My father lowered his coffee.

“Sabrina, don’t make us ask twice.”

I smiled and placed a thin folder on the table.

Damon barely looked at it.

Then he saw the name on the first page.

His.

Months earlier, his failed business had left him owing nearly $240,000 to a private lender. The note had recently been offered for sale at a steep discount.

Through my attorney and holding company, I had purchased it the night before.

Not to ruin him.

To stop my parents from using his debt as another excuse to drain me.

Damon’s face went white.

“You bought my loan?”

“I bought the note.”

My father stood.

“You can’t do that to your own brother.”

“You came onto my yacht demanding $172,000 for him.”

Silence.

Then I explained the new reality.

The debt would be handled through a written repayment plan.

No cash gift.

No bailout.

No yacht suite.

And no family negotiations.

My attorney would manage everything.

My mother stared at me.

“So you tricked us?”

“No. You told me exactly what you wanted. I simply decided where my money would go.”

By noon, all four suitcases were back on the dock.

My robe went to the cleaners.

The face cream went in the trash.

Mateo personally watched the gangway while my family left.

They had boarded my yacht believing money had finally made me useful again.

Instead, their greed handed me the one thing they never expected me to have.

Leverage.

And for the first time in my life, I did not use it to rescue them.

I used it to make them responsible for themselves.
