The Signature She Forged Was the One Piece of Evidence I Had Been Waiting For

I tapped Accept and let my mother’s voice fill the empty kitchen. She was frantic, demanding I call the bank, insisting the freeze was a mistake, telling me a daughter owed her mother this much. I said nothing at first. Renata listened silently on the other line, recording every word with my permission.

Then Marlene made her mistake. She shouted that she had every right to move that money because she had signed the papers herself and I had never lifted a finger to stop her. Kayla’s voice cut in behind her, bragging that the notary was a friend who owed them a favor. Renata’s line went quiet for one second, then she said four words that changed everything. “We have them now.”
