The building inspector documented exposed wiring, disconnected plumbing, structural damage, and demolition performed without permits. The contractors immediately stopped defending Melissa when they learned she had falsely claimed to own the property.
Todd admitted they planned to move in before Vanessa returned and pressure her into accepting the arrangement afterward.
The police ordered everyone out of the house. Melissa, Todd, and his parents were issued formal trespass warnings, while the contractors provided copies of every message, invoice, and authorization Melissa had signed.
Their mother called Vanessa and described the situation as a misunderstanding.

The locks were replaced that afternoon. Cameras were installed throughout the property, and every family member was removed from Vanessa’s emergency-access list.
Melissa later demanded help paying for temporary housing because her lease had expired.
Vanessa sent her a list of local apartment complexes.
They had expected to take over her home without permission.
Instead, they paid to restore it exactly the way Vanessa wanted—and learned that her calm “okay” had never meant consent.
